Just got this pc with no hard drive. Fitted a 500gb sata drive, installed windows 7 ultimate and it runs like a dream. Can't help wondering why someone would throw out a pc with these specs. http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=c01859908

This surely isn't a gaming rig. That means the system was previously owned by a house wife, a solicitor or an average Joe in other words, someone who would use this pc for a very limited amount of tasks. No wonder HDD was gone, because the data is all they would care about.
Besides, many people have no idea how to manage their systems. For instance, my ex....her house is full of good laptops - hers, her sisters, etc. They told me these laptops are full or viruses and dont work... SO many people I know always experience the kind of problems I used to face in my early computing days when I have had no idea what I was doing.
Now you and me, we would simply clean them up and restore to factory settings. It would be as good as new and we have so many uses for it.
For example, my P4 (the pc that brought me to LOSV and started it all) that we have bought in 2002 ran until 2013.
My brother used it for studies, because it would not run other tasks well anymore. He said that there was a special way to switch it on, because the usual way wouldn't suffice any longer.

Well i got it going well and with a quad4 processor and a 500mb graphics card, and 4gb memory it runs fast. It refuses to let me install windows xp pro as a dual boot option so i can have my outlook express email, clipboard and lots of other programs that are not on windows 7.
I then installed virtual machine and xp mode from microsoft. It has a free version of windows xp that you can have on top of instead of by the side of windows 7 ultimate.
I can now use it to make maps, get my email , and have clipboard with all the things left out of windows 7.
Runs the games fast as well. Cool

Tried this out and it's fine if you only want to run office work on the virtual machine in xp mode but to try to run a game , don't bother as it also has a virtual graphics card so is not using the windows 7 graphics.
Tried the games on windows 7 but it refuses to run Territorial Warfare. All others are fine though.
So i will uninstall virtual machine and all other stuff and sell it  Laughing
